The Church hall in Hitcham Road

This picture was taken in the garden at Emmanuel Church Hitcham Road about May 1944 to send to the Rev. Fox (the vicar of the church) who was on active service as a padre. Just as it was being taken, a huge convoy of Army vehicles passed along Lea Bridge Road evidently in readiness for D. Day. They were on their way to Whipps Cross where a large camp was set up. The lady on the right in the first row is Betty Williamson who kindly supplied this photograph and story.
